Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the impact of the Bulgarian occupation on the Jews of Yugoslav Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace through the utilization of historical documents held at the Bulgarian State Archives. The paper describes the application of restrictive measures against the local Jewish communities, as well as Bulgaria’s involvement in the design and implementation of the deportation operation of the Yugoslav and Greek Jews to the Treblinka extermination camp (1941-1943).

Author Biography

  • Dr. Anna Batzeli

    Anna Batzeli (Άννα Μπατζέλη) earned her PhD in History from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2019. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Democritus University of Thrace. Throughout her academic career, she has been actively involved in various research projects and initiatives, resulting in the publication of two books and numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, academic blogs, as well as presentations at workshops and conferences.
