The Case of Greek as a National Language

Abstract

For any non-dominant language to be maintained in a bilingual environment without diglossia at inter-generational level requires the following:

1) The existence of a populous base of speakers;
2) Adequate function of language use;
3) Acceptability within the broader society;
4) Stability of the given language.
